I’m Louis Massaro, author of 10 Rules of a Profitable Moving Company and founder of Moving Mastery, a mentoring, coaching, and education company dedicated to helping entrepreneurs in the moving industry increase profits by implementing proven strategies in marketing, sales, and operations.
I help entrepreneurs and business owners unlock their company’s full potential so that they can not only make more money but live a more balanced, fun and fulfilling life.
When I opened my first moving company in 2000, I was a 19-year-old kid that started by placing an ad in the yellow pages and renting a couple of trucks. At first, my office was the parking lot of the truck rental yard where I dispatched the crews out of my car. I was struggling to operate on a shoestring budget and maxed out credit cards. It was not a professional set up. When drivers and helpers came for an interview they thought it was a joke.
Although it wasn’t an easy start, every obstacle and setback were opportunities to learn. It took me a few years of making a ton of mistakes and constantly saying to myself “there’s got to be a better way to do this” before I really developed a solid process and system.
I finally mastered a system for running a very profitable moving & storage company, while also discovering how to have balance in my life and not work crazy hours. I took that system and started opening up several offices in cities throughout the US where we sold over $20 Million per year in moves.
I’ve also taught and continue to teach my system to others. My students have gone on to build their own multi-million dollar moving companies. They continue to thrive and profit while they are able to spend more time with family and doing the things they love in life.
I’m blessed to have had some tremendous success in the moving industry, building a nationwide company from scratch that provided a great service to tens of thousands customers each year. After 16 years in business, I’m fortunate to be able to have sold my companies and enjoy the fruits of my labor.
Unfortunately, I’ve also experienced some major setbacks due to my poor decision to open a moving broker division for a brief period of time. I hope to be able to use my experience of becoming a moving broker, and the legal trouble that it caused me to help companies make wiser choices when it comes to outsourcing moves.
I’m passionate about helping entrepreneurs avoid unnecessary struggles and stresses while becoming more profitable in their business and happier in their lives! I hope that the free information on this site provides you with great value and look forward to meeting you some day.

Great video Louis. A video on employee vs contractor in our industry would be helpful.
Hardy Auston Thanks Hardy! I’ll add that to the video list!
I recently started a small moving company in my home state of Iowa. I am approved to move household goods in-state only. I am having the hardest time figuring out the proper documentation I need to move across state lines. I need to know who approves tariffs and licensing that will help me take my business to the next level. This is imperative because I live in a tri-state area. Please help
I believe in second chances Louis. I have made my own mistakes. But you are blaming others for what your company did perpetrate. There are many videos of your movers, using your trucks, trying to scam customers. As a moving business owner myself your company gives my industry a bad name. So I want to know what you are doing so that this does not happen again? Why should I now trust you? I want to, but I want to see what you are doing to improve not just your image but the moving industry too. You have a lot to make up for. I do wish you well. I am truly interested in seeing you succeed, I just want to know that you are not doing something shady.
I understand where you are coming from and appreciate you raising your concerns. As a moving company owner for 16 years, I’m aware of the bad reputation of our industry as a whole. I feel a sense of responsibility to help turn that reputation around from the inside out.
I was very successful with my moving companies and also experienced what happens when things are not done correctly. I plan on using the combination of experiences of what “to do” and what “not to do” in the business to help moving companies avoid mistakes while growing their businesses.
I started selling individual local locations of my companies in 2009. The videos you are referring to were of the companies that I sold those businesses too. I’m not attempting to shift blame, I’m just stating facts.
I take 100% responsibility for the actions of my companies. I made the decision to open a brokering business and was responsible for the choices of carriers that serviced our moves. I also had a responsibility to my customers to have their move serviced by a company that would do a great job for them, and I regret that there were times we failed. My team and I worked really hard to screen new carriers and monitor their activities but it wasn’t enough. At the time we were booking over 12,000 moves per year, most of which were satisfied customers. I voluntarily closed down my brokering division after realizing we could not control the outcome of our customer’s experience.
I’m no longer in the moving business. My companies were never shut down by any agencies, I am still allowed to be in the moving business if I choose. After experiencing my legal troubles that are now behind me, I felt a calling to help the industry and decided to follow that calling. This is my way of making up for my mistakes.
I can’t make you or even ask you to trust me. All I can do is continue on my mission to help moving companies and hope that you will start to see that my heart is in the right place.
