A mentor is just someone with more experience, with whom you get along, and can help you avoid the mistakes others have made. They can also act as a sounding board and motivation. Mark Cuban may not have had an official mentor, but he’s had parents, friends, business partners, advisors, investors – people who gave him advice on how to succeed.

@mk17173n right now the equivalent of dot come bubble is social media. NUMEROUS people have become millionaries by just using social media the right way. Right now is the age to get rich off of social media

A mentor is never a bad thing. Its why rich families stay rich. They pass the knowledge down to their kids. Sure you can go in blind and it can work out, but its even easier for things to go terribly simply due to ignorance.

It depends on the type of person and history you have. I am going to say on a whim that people with mentors start before or around their early 20s before too much unavoidable tragedy hits their life or before they have too many failures. Maybe not always the case but someone I look up to had a mentor since around 19 I believe and if I started that early maybe I wouldnt have struggled so much with motivation. Some people see success before they have a mentor and that gives them more potential to succeed with a mentor when they start with one because they have had some success and have drive. The biggest question few people answer is how to start if you have never really succeeded and you dropped out of college and you dont particularly like any whole skillset meaning you dont like doing any mainstream online or alternative business as a sole party. I’m an artist who doesnt like marketing though I know how to do everything. And I’ve havent followed through many things in life. Thus I’m still trying to overcome these hurtles. Who can help people who have constantly failed to follow through in their life thus far?

Lol it has nothing to do with being weak minded. Mentors are for people who are maybe new to an industry and could use some advice regarding different situations.
If you only ever lead the way and you start to become successful then you will eventually hit a wall; all success experiences this. If you haven’t hit wall yet then you aren’t as successful as you could be. When you hit this wall it’s helpful to have someone you can reach out to that you trust and can ask questions to overcome the problem.

@Hassan Qayyum Then that’s not a mentor that’s just an advisor whose opinion you value. A mentor is typically someone you view as being superior to yourself in some way and for that reason you go to them to be taught what to do.

Hes not cocky. Thats just a “get it done” attitude. Straight forward, get to the point. Thats a strong mindset, however, he knows he needs those opposite him to balance him out, so he is aware of himself.

best thing every. most “mentors” are there only to make money off you. figure it out yourself, that how all true people like mark, and many many others did it. Bill gates was a small boy when he started lesrning about software.

Most of them either dropped out of school or resigned from work, they love doing things their own way, no teacher, no boss, no mentor. They are the kind that would say you can’t teach me a thing because you ain’t who I want to become. ???

Well, when you define a mentor as someone who tells you what to do, then certainly that’s a problem! You need to seek mentors who challenge you and make you think deeply in ways that aren’t natural to your style.

True. Guys like Mark Cuban will never spill the beans in a public platform. That’s the reason why the rich stay rich and the poor stay poor. They know stuff but don’t share it. It’s just how it is.

People didn’t get his message. He learn from everyone by always listening then he does his own conclusion. That way everyone becomes a mentor.
Business results changes depending on personal skills and many other circumstances. Someone else success in the past doesnt mean it will apply to you today.

@steven59 exactly. The man literally said he’s never had a mentor, which is not only arrogant, it’s ignorant. Like he learned to tie his shoes on his own when he learned to walk — then immediately went to the bank to open a checking account. Of course… I’m not sitting on a stage having people fawn all over me so…

    2. steven59

@Jay M It makes him sound ridiculous, I agree. Like he thinks he is everyone’s mentor and has none but in reality he would not be where he is at and for all his mentors he didn’t mention, they should have never wasted their time on him. Cuban was hungry so he prevailed but his arrogance about it makes me respect him less for his lack of humility in spite of whatever anyone thinks he means. If Warren Buffet could say he had a mentor, Cuban sounds stupid saying he had none (everyone does) whether they acknowledge it or not. I’m a mentor to some in my field and they are my mentor in another field. That isn’t to hard to admit and can even go as far as saying I have had younger mentors than me.
