SUMMARY:Becoming a Sexuality Educator and Trainer - September 21-23
DESCRIPTION:A 3-Day LIVE on Zoom\, ONLINE *certificate training for anyone who works with people with developmental disabilities.\n\n\nLearn to lead sexuality education classes\, staff trainings\, and parent workshops.  \nSept 21-23\, 2022 Registration is limited to 30 participants! Register today to secure a spot. *This program is Approved by the National Association of Social Workers (Approval # 886798975-3456) for 17 continuing education contact hours\, and Sexuality Educators can get 8.75 CEs toward AASECT certification (see FAQ for details) \nIncrease your skill and comfort level when addressing sexuality with people with I/DD. \nFollowing the training\, participants will have the skills and three curriculum (with corresponding\, customizable slide decks)\, handouts\, teaching tools\, so they can lead: \n\nSexuality education classes for people with I/DD\nStaff trainings on how to address sexuality one-on-one with people with I/DD\nParent workshops on “How to Talk with your Kids about Sexuality.”\n\nDon’t miss this opportunity to get the training and support you need to make a difference in the lives of people with I/DD. \nThe goal of this training is to train an employee to become your agency’s or school’s staff/parent trainer and sexuality educator. This person will become more confident and comfortable leading sexuality education classes for people with I/DD as well as train staff and parents either one-on-one or in groups\, so they can promote the sexual health of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. You will leave with new knowledge and skills\, and 3 curriculum with handouts and teaching tools so you can begin as soon as you return to work following the training. \n*You will receive a certificate of attendance or\, if you pass an assessment following the training\, a certificate of completion. This certificate does not make you a certified sexuality educator and trainer. \nHere’s what our participants say: \n“This training conquered a challenging topic area that is so crucial and much needed to allow our clients to lead autonomous\, independent\, and fulfilling lives. I feel well prepared to take this on in my workplace\, providing trainings to our direct care staff and participants directly.” \n“This was the most well taught course of instruction and materials I’ve attended in years. Totally current and relevant\, Exceeded my expectations 100%. The quality of any energy experience in this course was of such high caliber that I would recommend it to any person serving the DD population.” \n“I learned a lot of different presentation techniques as well as different ways to keep the flow of a training going. I liked absolutely everything about the training. Honestly\, it was the best training that I have ever attended. I loved the content and presentation. I can’t wait to implement.” \n“I learned that I have the ability to train co-workers\, parents\, and clients about this topic. I liked that it was comfortable. The training was very informative. The curriculum is clear\, easy to use\, and thorough. When I return to work I am going to discuss this training with my supervisor and implement ASAP.” \nTraining Description \nWhen it comes to talking about sexuality\, people with disabilities are often excluded\, almost as if they are incapable of having sexual thoughts\, feelings and needs. In reality\, they too are sexual beings who need the information and skills for making healthy decisions about sexuality. Though agencies and schools who work with people with I/DD know that sexuality issues need to be addressed\, they don’t necessarily feel comfortable or competent enough to do so. This workshop will give you the curriculum\, tools\, and skills to teach sexuality education classes and lead staff training and parent workshops. \nObjectives \nAs a result of this training\, you will be able to: \n\nDescribe how to help people with disabilities become sexual self-advocates.\nIdentify our own values and attitudes and how those impact your ability and effectiveness in teaching this topic.\nExplore the qualities of a good sexuality educator and trainer.\nCreate elevator speeches to get buy in for implementation. \nExplain what makes it difficult for staff and parents to talk about sexuality with consumers and discuss solutions to those barriers. \nList ways to teach this topic with other agency staff\, parents\, and people with disabilities. \nDemonstrate effective training techniques to use with staff\, parents\, and people with disabilities.\n\nTuition: \nTuition for this certificate training is $1095\, or $845 if you already own a copy of Sexuality Education for People with Developmental Disabilities Curriculum.
