So do you suggest picking a particular area of coaching, eg, sport, dietician, career, business etc. rather than a general life coach. Would that not lessen your opportunities of clientele. I can see the pro’s like if you’ve already got qualifications or a huge interest in one area, but then you only specialise in one area.

Unless you’re already a trained niche marketer, I would start GENERAL… even if you think you know the niche you’ll be a good fit for.

That keeps your opportunities open, and allows you to explore all the different ways you can add value as a coach.

Later on, you’ll see patterns of who types of clients, solutions, problems, and goals that you do well coaching, as well as the economics of each “niche”… after a while, your niche WILL CHOOSE YOU. More about this HERE:

It is truly a blessing being a life coach, I started as a person trainer actually. Being a trainer I realized how a lot of people’s issues start with their mindset. So I studied psychology and focus on mindset. You change that and you change a person’s life?

Coaching requires some special traits and if there is any form of teaching/training background combined with substantial life experience and some entrepreneurship that be ideal. Without those you cannot be efficient enough and formal courses (costly) and certs might be useful for some with no experience. A certification does not prove you to be a proper coach nor gets you any more business! (12 yrs teaching + 9yrs coaching background)

Technically, yes, but not from a business perspective. Coaches ask questions and facilitate inquiries while consultants provide information and facilitate knowledge implementation.

I’m mentoring a coach right now that works with life insurance agents and successful trainers in the insurance industry. There are lots of potential clients in that niche.
